Millennium BCP (Banco Comercial Português) has been relying on Beta Systems Software’s Identity Access Management (IAM) solutions to meet its identity management needs since 2001. The largest universal private bank in Portugal has recently confirmed that it completed a smooth migration to SAM Enterprise Identity Manager, the newest generation of IAM solutions from the Berlin-based software firm. This has replaced SAM Jupiter, the previous version. Millennium bcp is using the solution for role-based user administration on RACF, OS400 and Windows systems. The new generation gives Millennium bcp the significant advantage of enterprise-wide Identity Access Management running on several platforms. A total of 40,000 users in 5 countries use the system. The next step for the bank will be to extend this solution with Beta Systems’ SAM Password Self-Reset. The implementation is planned for this fall.
The next generation of SAM maps existing business processes and organizational workflows with Identity Access Management throughout the enterprise. SAM Enterprise Identity Manager builds a bridge between business and IT services. With its business process workflows, SAM enables customers to optimize approval processes in an easy and transparent manner, enforce deputy rules and, at the same time, significantly improve user performance. Together with the web-based SAM Password Self-Reset component, SAM Enterprise Identity Manager significantly reduces the user helpdesk workload, resulting in substantial cost savings. In addition, SAM Enterprise Identity Manager enables companies like Millennium bcp to establish automated lifecycle management of IT user roles, identities and access rights and align them with their organizational requirements.
“We’ve been very satisfied with Beta Systems’ IAM solution for several years now,” comments D. Domingos Gonzalez, Information Security Officer at Millennium bcp. “Migrating to SAM Enterprise Identity Manager provides us with an additional benefit in that the solution can be used across different platforms, not just on mainframes. Beta Systems provided us with a very professional support during the tests prior to the migration. SAM Enterprise Identity Manager gives us cost-effective user permission management, which is why we have decided to extend our Identity Management system in a second phase and implement the SAM Password Self-Reset Services for our IT users.”
The addition of SAM Password Self-Reset at the bank is planned for fall this year. It enables users to reset their passwords and reactivate their accounts using an intuitive Web interface, without having to involve the help desk. This sig¬nificantly reduces administrative and help desk costs. ROI is achieved within a year for most installations.
Users can manage their passwords themselves and no longer feel the need to write down their passwords and keep them near their worksta¬tions. By eliminating this type of contravention of company security pol¬icy, SAM Password Self-Reset Services significantly improves security in the enterprise. SAM Password Self-Reset Services’ authentication questions can be flexibly configured. Users can reset passwords and reactivate accidentally blocked accounts themselves, in complete compliance with company IT security policy. In this way, SAM Password Self-Reset Services underpins the implementation and enforcement of enterprise-wide governance, risk and compliance requirements.**
